Zulum Appoints Two New Board Members for BOSIEC
Approves recruitment of 776 Teachers

Two newly appointed board members of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission took oath office on Wednesday in Maiduguri. They are Comrade Ali Abana and Alhaji Kyari Musa. This was in fulfillment of the requirements for the Commission to be fully constituted and operational.
The state Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum represented by his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur presided over the swearing in while the state chief judge also represented by Justice H.Y Mshelia administered the oath of allegiance.
The governor expressed hope that with the calibre of people in the board, the conduct of forthcoming local government election in the state would be free, fair, credible and acceptable.
The Governor urged them to strictly adhere to the electoral laws and justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and assured that government will continue to provide enabling environment for democracy to thrive in the state.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Comrade Ali Abana commended the present administration for its people-oriented programmes and for giving the board members to opportunity to serve the State. He promised to live up to expectations to justify the confidence reposed in them.
In another development, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the recruitment of 776 teachers for Borno’s Secondary Schools who are to resume work on November 1, 2020.
The Governor made this known after a meeting with the officials of the State ministries of Higher Education, Education and Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (BOSUBEB).
Zulum also said that immediately after the completion of the verification exercise, similar approval will be granted to the State Universal Education Board to recruit more qualified primary school teachers.
The Governor further said, that the state executive council’s resolve to extend retirement age for the teachers of the State tertiary institutions. He said a bill was already sent to the state assembly to that effect.
Governor Zulum also directed the state ministry of education and the state Universal Basic Education Board to recruit some qualified retired teachers, particularly science teachers on ad hoc basis. According to the Governor, this is to bridge the gap of the existing shortage of science teachers across the state.
