Right of Reply to El’-Rufia’s Critique of APC
By Joseph Odok PhD Esq
A public affairs commentators makes a case on the need to separate what is said in the public from who said it, otherwise the message could be lost because attention is on the messenger.
“Even a mad man in the streets has right to hold government to account
“In democracy take the message and not the messenger, public holders owe us responsibility, transparency and accountability”
Nasir El-Rufai supported President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the front, just like Tinubu supported Former President Muhammadu Buhari from the front.
Unlike El-Rufai, who is excluded from the government he worked for, Tinubu was the most critical stakeholder in Buhari’s government.
El-Rufai is not part of Tinubu’s government and can criticize this government in conscience. Alas. I can recall how some close supporters of Tinubu led in the campaign of Buhari being not doing enough for Tinubu in respect to what Tinubu sacrificed. Same peoples are insensitive to the fact that Tinubu owes El-Rufia same thing the expected from Buhari. The hypocrisy truly stinks.
That Tinubu is the one blaming Buhari’s government and mobilizing his supporters against El-Rufai is very shocking. Who is the most insincere, treacherous, and backstabber?
I guess people should stop insulating President Tinubu from criticism by virtue of his public office, more so since he criticized Buhari as president and his government is still criticizing Buhari and blaming the failure of this government in Buhari. The attempt to insulate Tinubu and destroy all dissents to his style of government is not only undemocratic but has the capacity to destroy APC as APC seems to be acting now as Tinubu’s party
For me and my thoughts, I will take the message of El-Rufai and others and leave the messenger, because my attention is not on insulating public office holders but on appreciating the democratic requirements of holding them to account. Supporters of Tinubu will do democracy good if they focus on addressing El Rufia message not the messenger especially because El Rufia is out of power and don’t owe Nigerians accountability like Tinubu does”.
