Over the years the Nigeria educational system has seems to be watered down due to some sort of negligence and less focus so to say by the government. This has made a lot of youths loss interest in education while some can boldly refer education in Nigeria as a scam. However, there is good news now, education has greatly improved and the future looks so much brighter and promising with several initiatives underway to improve the sector.
In this recent administration, the federal government has tried immensely in reforming the sector with increased funding and strategic policies. The 2025 budget allocated N3.52 trillion to education which is a huge significant step in rectifying past neglect.
The technological integration is another wise decision federal government has adopted as the world goes digital day after day. E-learning learning platforms, AI-powered tools, digital resources, are being explored to offer flexible learning opportunities.
Another great strategy is also the introduction of extracurricular activities as part of the scheme. This vocational skills, practical trainings, and entrepreneurial mindsets equips graduates with market- relevant skills.
Vocational skills training may become more prominent, preparing students for the market demands out there.
Nevertheless, there is need for continuous efforts by the government to make sure education becomes exactly what it supposed to be in Nigeria. There’s need for increased annual budget up to the UNESCO recommendation of 15-20% annual budget.
Many schools lack infrastructure to support quality teaching and learning. More efforts on modernization of curriculum, focusing on critical thinking, problem -solving and innovation is added advantage.
An increased focused on science, technology, Engineering and mathematics education should receive more attention as helps the government on technological advancement.
Conclusively, there is a huge undeniable evidence that Nigeria education is not where it used to be and looking at the future, it’s extremely promising.
