Presisent Tinubu Apppoints Ayo Hulayat Omidiran as Chairman, Federal Character Commission

Names Commission’s Secretary and other Commissioners

 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR on Monday August 11, 2025 approved the appointment of Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, a former House of Representatives member, the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission.

She succeeds Dr Muheeba Dankaka, whose tenure was dogged by controversy.

In the same token, the President appointed Mohammed Musa as the Commission’s Secretary while retaining Kayode Oladele from Ogun State as Commissioner.

Oladele, who was formerly a Member, House of Representatives, was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024. He served as the Commission’s Acting Chairman at the expiration of Dankaka’s first-term tenure.

The President also renewed the appointment of Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), and Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun) states for a second term, respectively.

The newly-appointed Commissioners include:

  7. Aligba Eugene Tarkende, Benue
  8. Engr.Modu Mustapha, Borno
  9. Dr. Stella Odey Ekpo, Cross River
  10. Ederin Lovette Idisi, Delta
  11. Barr. Nwokpor Vincent Nduka, Ebonyi
  12. Hon. Chief Victor Sabor Edoror, Edo
  13. Hon. Sola Fokanle, Ekiti
  14. Peter Eze, Enugu
  15. Ibrahim Baba Mairiga, Gombe
  16. Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso, Imo

The Federal Character Commission is a government agency responsible for implementing and enforcing the Federal Character Principle. The key functions of the Commission are:

  • Monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Federal Character
  • Principle Ensuring fair distribution of public posts and socio-economic infrastructure.
  • Promoting balanced representation across regions and ethnic groups in government.

It was established by Act No. 34 of 1996.
