The Gbagyi (or Gbari) ethnic group in Nigeria has a deep-rooted history as one of the indigenous populations of the Abuja area. Their cultural values focus on community, family bonds, and honoring elders, operating under a traditional leadership structure of village leaders and elder councils.
Important elements of Gbagyi culture include their traditional crafts, especially their skill in clay mixing for household items, and lively celebrations such as the Agbamaya festival, which marks the arrival of the rainy season. A key component of their culture is their culinary practices, centered around staple foods like guinea corn and millet, which form dishes like the fermented guinea corn beverage, Zhepwo, and the accompanying locust bean soup, Knadolo.

The Gbagyi are among the initial inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory, with their history tracing back to the 14th century.
