Buhari Makes Teachers to Smile

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved Special Salary Scale for Teachers in Nigeria and also increased ‘Years of Service’ from 35 to 40.

This was made public today Monday October 5, by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in a speech on behalf of the President to mark the 2020 World Teachers Day.

In Nigeria, teachers are known to be among the least paid professionals. It is hoped that this new approval by the Government will help to restore the dignity of teachers and attract more intellectual, committed personnel to the professions in the coming years.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5. It is a day to celebrate the role of all educators, including teachers, researchers and professors. Also known as International Teachers Day, this day has been celebrated since 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2020 is “Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future”.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, celebrations this year will be held online in many countries.
