Partner with President Tinubu, Kalu Tells Zamfara Governor
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has cautioned that Zamfara State risks missing significant developmental opportunities if its governor neglects to engage in strategic political economics with the President.
Speaking at the commissioning of the newly built Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the renovated Zamfara College of Arts and Science in Gusau, the state capital, Kalu shared his perspective.
Kalu clarified that he was not urging Governor Dauda Lawal to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC but emphasized the importance of fostering a strong relationship with President Bola Tinubu, a key APC figure.
Reflecting on his tenure as Abia State governor from May 1999 to May 2007, Kalu noted that, despite being a PDP member, he maintained a cordial relationship with Tinubu, then a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Kalu remarked, “The President is not just my brother but my friend. Our bond predates our time as governors. My daughters lived in his home in Lagos, raised by Mrs. Tinubu, as they schooled there while we resided in Abia.
Kalu continued, “You can remain PDP, as I am APC and the President is APC. Stay loyal to your party, but prioritize economic development for Zamfara to ensure its progress.”
Kalu advised Governor Lawal to adopt political economics to secure more federal funding for Zamfara’s development projects.
Political part affiliation must not be allowed to undermine the delivery of democratic dividends.
