FG, ASUU meeting deadlocked over IPPIS

as ASUU insists on UTAS

The likelihood of early resumption of universities after the strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is now remote. This is as the union, Friday, insisted that it would not join the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.

Consequently, ASUU has directed its members to remain resolute in their resolve not enroll in the federal government’s payment system – IPPIS.

Although government has offered to release N20 billion to cater for the revitalisation of public universities and another commitment of N40 billion for Earned Academic Allowances(EAA), ASUU is not impressed and insists its members must not enrol in IPPIS.

In a statement ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, on Friday, he warned members not succumb to the government’s policy.

ASSU and the Federal Government has engaged in industrial dispute since March 23, 2020 over the claim by the university teachers that the government wants to impose the IPPIS on its members.

Even though Despite being largely funded from government coffers, ASUU is of the perception that IPPIS may erode the autonomy of the university sector.

ASUU had maintained that the University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS), developed by the universities, had comprehensive data to take care of payment of her members
