Ohaneze Youth Council asks South-east Governors to Declare Stance
The tide is turning among the youths in Nigeria. For about a week now, the Nigerian youths have been on the streets protesting in different parts of the country.
Investigations by Future World show that while youths is many parts of Southern Nigeria are protesting against SARS and Police brutality, youths under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups – CNG – are protesting against general insecurity in most of Northern Nigeria.
Northern youths appeal not be interested in the #EndSARS protests but have their own challenge which do not attribute to the activities of SARS.
As youths in the South are becoming bold in their agitations, and actually turning it into public carnival, youths in the North are being prevented by security agencies from expressing their frustration with the situations they are living with.
For instance, the spokesman for CNG Abdulazeez Suleiman is quoted as saying: Security agencies are trying to stop our protests in Kano They are called and asked us not to go ahead with the protest. Our members were detained and later releases in Gombe earlier today, Friday, October 16.
It should be recalled that CNG began protests across the northern sates to draw attention of federal government t to the insecurity in the north.
The group said ti wanted the government to give the insecurity ravaging the north the same attention given to #EndSARS protesters.
Meanwhile, the Ohaneze Youth Council – OYC – has asked the South-east Governors to declare their stand on the ongoing protests by youth to end the operations of the Special Ant-Robbery Squad, SARS, over brutal killings.
OYC spoke through is national Publicity Secretary, Osmond Nkeoma, in reaction to the statement by Northern Governors that SARS should not be disbanded.
In a written statement, the group said: The Northern Governors Forum has within 48 hours of the disbandment of SARS, made their stance known.
“We demand to know the stance of the southern governors also, especially their south-eastern counterparts whom majority of their subjects are seeing as stooges.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for them to prove that they are not anti-Igbo.
