The leadership of the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) on Thursday, April 18, 2024, presented the Icon of Societal Development Award to Dr. Joseph C. Ibekwe, President of Fled Group.

The team, led by the President, Hassan Usman El-Yakub, and Muhammad Awwal Adamu, made the presentation at Fled Office in Abuja.

Speaking before the presentation, Hassan talked passionately and clearly about the challenges facing youths in Northern Nigeria including drug abuse, lack of entrepreneurial skills, unemployment, lack of leadership competencies, high rate of children out-of-school, etc. He sought the collaboration of Fled International Leadership Institute to help them address some of these challenges, based on the Institute’s areas of competence.

Responding, Dr. Ibekwe thanked them for taking the initiative to locate him for this award and for seeking out possible help for youths of their region. He praised them for taking responsibility to address some of the challenges they have identified.

Dr. Ibekwe noted that it was quite disheartening that the numerous potential locked-in youths of our country are being allowed to waste due to inadequate support and integrated development plans. In her comment, Dr. Regina Ogbuagu, fpl Director of Africa Centre for Public Leadership who was there to receive the students praised them for their passion and encouraged them not to give up in their search for collaborations to address the challenges they have outlined.

Dr. Ibekwe later presented with copies of his book, The Quest for Political Leadership & Citizens Democracy: How Individuals Become Public Citizens. On behalf of Fled Group, he committed to working with NANNS to achieve their noble objectives for youths in Northern Nigeria particularly those in tertiary institutions.
