Understanding Fledism Leadership Philosophy
The fundamental statement of Fledism Leadership Philosophy – FLP- is that: “The primary purpose of leadership, particularly public leadership, is to enhance the quality of human life and to guarantee the flourishing of society, every other thing is secondary”.
In Fledism, we don’t just ask: “how should leaders lead?” We begin by asking, “what is the purpose of leadership?
We don’t ask: “Are leaders trained? Instead, we ask: “How are individuals formed before they assume public leadership?”
We don’t just see leadership from the lens of power, position, authority, influence, or achievements.
We see leadership from the lens of Stewardship . Fledism makes demand on stewardship of vision, stewardship of values, stewardship of people, stewardship of power, stewardship of institutions, and stewardship of resources.
Within the Fledism Leadership Philosophy, we state that purpose precedes practice. The practice of leadership is ultimately shaped by one’s understanding of its purpose. Because stewardship is the defining purpose of public leadership, it must also shape its principles, ethics, and practice.
Essentially, three concepts stand out within FLP knowledge ecosystem.
First, we propose that Purpose is of leadership is central. In other words, we first ask: Why does leadership exist?
Second, we propose that Principles determine the practice of leadership. In other words, we as the question: What truths govern leadership?
Third, we propose that leadership Practice must be interrogated, not to simply just accept whatever leadership offers. We ask How should leadership be exercised?
Within Fledism Leadership Philosophy body of knowledge, we propose that purpose should precedes practice; stewardship should define purpose; purpose should determine principles; principles should guide practice; practice should produce trackable measurable impact based on the level of human flourishing.
