WHO IS A MEMBER OF FLED FAMILY?

The FLED Family is a community of people who identify with the values, principles and aspirations of FLED Group Africa and are committed, in their own spheres of life, to responsible living, leadership, stewardship and human flourishing under God.

Being a Member of FLED Family is not dependent on attending a FLED programme, working for FLED, belonging to a FLED institution or participating actively in FLED activities.

You can be anywhere in the world and still be part of the FLED Family.

Who is a Member of FLED Family?

A Member of FLED Family is anyone, anywhere, who identifies with what FLED stands for and seeks to live by its values.

Such a person believes in:

– Stewardship over ownership — recognising that whatever we possess, influence or are entrusted with should be used responsibly and for a purpose greater than ourselves.

– Responsible leadership — taking responsibility for oneself, others, institutions and society.

– Human dignity and productivity — believing that every person has inherent worth and should be enabled to develop their capacity and make meaningful contributions.

– Personal responsibility — recognising that meaningful change begins with individuals taking responsibility for their choices, conduct and contribution.

– Education and human development — seeing education as a means of transforming people, institutions and society, not merely as a means of acquiring certificates.

– Strong and productive families — recognising the family as fundamental to the wellbeing and development of society.

– Institutional excellence and integrity — valuing institutions that are purposeful, competent, accountable and built to endure beyond individuals.

– African development and contribution — believing in Africa’s capacity to develop, integrate and make a meaningful contribution to humanity.

– Service and enduring impact — seeking to use one’s abilities, opportunities and resources to make a constructive difference in the world.

– Human flourishing under God — recognising that human life has a purpose beyond material acquisition and that our lives, abilities and resources ultimately carry a responsibility before God.

You do not have to belong to a FLED Institution.

Being a Member of FLED Family is broader than formal membership.

You do not have to be a student of the FLED International Leadership Institute.

You do not have to be a member or fellow of the African Institute of Public Leadership.

You do not have to work for FLED Group Africa.

You do not have to attend FLED programmes or events.

You do not even have to have previously participated in a FLED activity.

You may simply encounter the FLED philosophy, recognise its values as consistent with your own convictions, and consciously choose to identify with and live by them.

FLED Family Is a Community of Shared Values

The FLED Family is therefore not a club, an alumni network or an institutional membership category.

It is a community of shared identity, values and responsibility.

A Member of FLED Family remains an independent person with their own profession, institution, country, community, beliefs and personal responsibilities. Membership of the FLED Family does not imply institutional control over the individual.

Rather, it represents a voluntary identification with a set of values and a commitment to embody those values wherever one lives and works.

A Member of FLED Family may be a professional, entrepreneur, public servant, educator, student, community leader, parent, young person, retiree or simply a person committed to living responsibly and contributing meaningfully to society.

What Does It Mean to Say, “I Am a Member of FLED Family”?

It means:

I identify with what FLED stands for.
I believe in responsible living and leadership.
I value stewardship over ownership.
I believe in the dignity and productivity of people.
I seek to contribute to the development of my family, community, institution, country and humanity.
I recognise that my life, abilities and resources carry a responsibility before God.
And I seek, in my own sphere of life, to contribute to human flourishing under God.

In other words, you don’t have to belong to a FLED institution to belong to the FLED Family. If you identify with what FLED stands for and seek to live its values, you are part of the FLED Family.

FLED Family
One Family. Shared Values. Responsible Living. Human Flourishing Under God.
