About the Awards

As part of its 25-Year Re-Focus Initiative, Future World Magazine invites nominations for the inaugural Future World Awards, established to recognize transformational public leadership, institutional excellence, and ideas shaping Nigeria and Africa’s future.

Founded in January 2001, Future World Magazine is a member of FLED Group Africa and is repositioned as a pan-African thought leadership platform committed to ethical leadership, institutional development, and responsible public discourse.

The Future World Awards are governed by an independent Awards Council and guided by a published Awards Charter, ensuring integrity, credibility, and editorial independence.

Nature of the Awards

  • The Future World Awards are non-monetary
  • Recipients receive a formal citation and recognition
  • Selected awardees may be invited to deliver a Future World Public Lecture or contribute a reflective essay
  • They will also be feature in digital and Print editions of the Magazine

Who May Be Nominated

Nominations are invited for:

  • Public leaders, professionals, thinkers, institutions, and initiatives
  • Nigerians and Africans (including diaspora contributions to Africa)
  • Individuals or institutions with demonstrable, long-term public impact

Self-nominations are permitted where appropriate.

Award Categories

The Future World Prize for Transformational Public Leadership

Recognizes individuals whose leadership has produced demonstrable public impact, strengthened institutions, and advanced the public good in Nigeria or Africa.

Future World Thought Leadership Distinction

Honours individuals or institutions whose ideas, research, writing, or advocacy have significantly shaped public discourse, policy thinking, or societal understanding

Future World Institutional Leadership Award

Recognizes institutions (not personalities) that exemplify:

  • Strong governance
  • Ethical culture
  • Public accountability
  • Enduring institutional impact

Future World Award for Ethical Media & Public Responsibility

Honours journalists, editors, or media institutions that demonstrate:

  • Editorial independence
  • Courage in public-interest reporting
  • Responsible public narrative
  • Resistance to misinformation and propaganda

Future World Next Generation Leadership Recognition

Recognizes emerging leaders showing exceptional promise in:

  • Public service
  • Civic leadership
  • Policy innovation
  • Media and communication leadership

(This is a recognition, not a popularity-based youth award.)

Future World Lifetime Contribution Distinction

A rare and discretionary honour for individuals whose decades-long contribution has significantly shaped public leadership, governance, or ideas in Africa.

(This distinction may not be awarded every year.)

Eligibility

  • Nominations may be made for individuals or institutions
  • Nominees may be Nigerian, African, or global actors whose work has meaningful impact on Africa
  • Sitting public office holders may be considered where clear, verifiable public value exists
  • Self-nominations are not permitted
  • No nomination may be sponsored, paid for, or influenced by lobbying

Nomination Process

  • Nominations are open to the public, institutions, and invited nominators
  • Each nomination should include as contained in the Nomination form:
    • Nominee’s full name and role
    • Award category
    • A concise statement of impact (maximum 100 words)
    • Supporting evidence or references where available

All nominations are subject to editorial verification and independent Council review.

  • Awards Announcement: May 20, 2026
  • Future World Magazine Week & Awards : May 25-31, 2026

Independence & Integrity

The Future World Awards are non-commercial, non-political, and merit-based.
No award may be conferred where standards are not met.
